Below are 5 quick tips on using library database features to help you be more effective in your searches. For more detail, see the video below and the links to tutorials on more specific topics.

  1. Refine you search and/or use limiter options so that you only get a few hundred results for each search
    • Add more keywords
    • Search for keywords within a specific field (e.g. abstract)
    • Limit by publication type, date, or subject
    • Try Advanced Search options
  2. Do NOT limit to Full Text-- this limits your search by what is immediately available rather than by what is relevant to your topic
  3. Click on the article title to use handy database tools (like print/email/cite options)
    • Also, NOTE the permalink option-- this will always link you back to the article
  4. Click on the links below the article information (title, abstract, etc.) to obtain the article
  5. Ask a Librarian if you need help
